F.E.S.H. (the Federation of Ethical Stage
Hypnotists) is the oldest and most established organisation of professional
stage hypnotists in the UK.
They have worked with the Home Office to help produce the current regulations
and guidelines that all UK
hypnotists are required to work to. They
also have their own code of conduct which all members adhere to.
F.E.S.H. has produced this
guide to help you safely choose the right hypnotist for your booking.

THE
LAW - Your hypnotist is required by law to abide by the
Government and Home Office Guidelines (Hypnotism act 1952 - revised 1996).
INSURANCE -
The hypnotist that you hire must have adequate Public Liability Insurance. In the unlikely event someone was hurt during
the performance the hirer would be liable should the hypnotist not have
adequate cover. If your hypnotist is insured
through 'Actors Equity', check that they have the separate 'hypnotist's policy'
as their general policy excludes in trance cover..
LICENCING -
Any show open to the general public may require permission or a licence from
your local council. For a private show
this may not be necessary. A reputable
hypnotist will be able to advise you and assist you with this process.
EXPERIENCE -
It is important to know that your hypnotist has good experience and
knowledge. Ask how long they have been
performing and if they have ever done an event like yours
RELIABILITY -
In the unlikely event your hypnotist was unable to perform, through illness or
other unforeseen circumstances, what back up plan do they have? All FESH
hypnotists have instant access to a network of high quality professionals
throughout the UK
who will do their best to cover your booking.
HYPNOTISTS
ARE ALL DIFFERENT - Many people wrongly assume that all
hypnotists are the same. They are not!
Hypnotists vary widely in experience, quality, professionalism show
content and price. Look closely at their
website, publicity, video clips (including YouTube) and decide if this is the
standard suitable for your guests.
CHEAP
IS NOT ALWAYS BEST - It's an old adage but it still holds true
even with hypnotists! If someone is much cheaper than everyone else, ask
yourself why? Hypnotists insurance is expensive, it costs money to run and
maintain a reliable vehicle and equipment, legitimate hypnotists pay their
taxes and reinvest in their show. If
it's cheap where are they cutting corners?
FINAL THOUGHT
If you book a recognised
FESH hypnotist you know what you are getting.
